Geography Field Studies
Skern Lodge is the provider for tailor made geography and environmental courses in North Devon . Residential courses can be designed in conjunction with visiting staff to ensure all of your educational needs from Key Stage 2 through to AS/A2 Level are met.
The centre is situated in an ‘Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty' and is inside the internationally recognised UNESCO Biosphere of Braunton Burrows. Our fieldwork sites are ideally situated throughout this area to maximise these unrivalled resources. Our programmes can include days investigating the process and landforms on the Heritage Coast of Hartland, the diversity of sand dune ecosystems at Braunton Burrows to studying fluvial processes on Exmoor National park. With such unrivalled field sites we can build a course to suit.
The centre offers residential courses with full tuition at all levels from Key Stage to A Level, where experienced and enthusiastic staff can deliver your programme.
Facilities
Visiting groups will have classrooms and a wide range of field equipment available, where students will have the opportunity to gain experience in many relevant techniques.
The centre has a dedicated computer suite, where students have access to data handling software and word processing. Statistical analysis is included whenever relevant and the centre has access to a large range of background material.
Safety
As a recognised and respected Outdoor Centre our prime consideration has always been the safety of our clients. All our sites have been carefully risk assessed and where necessary the appropriate precautions have been put in place to ensure we exceed our health and safety requirements.
Environmental Concerns
The centre is continuously reviewing its use of energy and aims to be as efficient as possible. We have a comprehensive recycling policy, where plastics, paper, cardboard and metals are recycled.
